As we celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, it is important to review the principles of fatherhood that God sets up in His Word. Ephesians 6:1-4, although specifically written for fathers and their children, contains principles which can be applied to people in all seasons of life. First, the biblical concept of honor is the cornerstone of all healthy relationships. To honor a person is to esteem or value him. Second, with positions of honor comes responsibility. Fathers should bear the responsibility of leadership for the family, encouraging growth and ready to face resistance with endurance and faith. Ultimately, God Himself provides us the best example of a loving father. If we model our lives after Jesus, we will find ourselves living these principles each day.
