James 4 contains a hard-hitting commentary on what is often the biggest source of our problems - ourselves. Sometimes, if you want to look for the source of your trials and struggles, you may need to look no further than your own life! In this chapter, James writes, “Where do wars and fights come from? Your own desires!” He then continues by stating that we may not receive certain blessings simply because we haven’t asked God for them. At the same time, if we have asked God, we may not receive them if we are asking with selfish motives. When was the last time you took a long, hard look at your life? Ask God to examine your heart and your motives and reveal anything that is not in line with His will, any selfish desires that are not glorifying Him. Then ask yourself the difficult question: Have you become your own worst enemy? If you have, there is hope! Submit your life, heart, and desires to Jesus Christ. His way leads to a life of abundance - a life that can leave a legacy that lasts for eternity.
