December this year will be the 300th anniversary of the birth of Charles Wesley, the brother of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement. In this talk Pastor Alan gives a brief overview of Charles Wesley's life and career, including his time spent at Oxford, his time in Georgia, USA, and, of course, his conversion which changed his life so dramatically.

However, Charles Wesley is largely remembered today as a writer of hymns and we can still feel the annointing of the Spirit on these songs of praise and worship which would have appeared almost "revolutionary" at a time when dour, staid chants were the order of the day. Familiar hymns to us today such as "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "O, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing" which are sung in numerous churches across the land, are examples of Charles's prodigious ouput.

His was a unique ministry of giving the Church a channel and means of expressing the joy of salvation.
