A Heartbeat from Disaster (94C)
Date: 8/8/2006
References: 2 Kings 23:4-16
Introduction:
  • Israel and Judah had fallen from God's desire and purpose.
Astrology is still dangerous.
  • We've got to destroy those things that have led us astray.
  • Josiah destroyed the astrological shrines Solomon had erected for his wives.
  • This drift from the true God happened slowly.
  • Horoscopes today are not a harmless pastime.
Our culture is absorbed with sex.
  • Josiah destroyed the phallic symbol in the midst of the Temple.
  • A whole industry was devoted to sacred sex in ancient Israel.
  • This happened slowly, by people allowing such behavior little by little.
Child sacrifice is a horrid problem.
  • Children were destroyed before the god Molech in the belief that the adult's lives would be happier.
  • We destroy children with saline solutions because they seem like a burden.
Our nation may be destroyed, too.
  • Everyone had access to all manner of idols, within and outside the Temple.
  • Josiah, by God's leading, destroyed it all.
  • But it was too late: Israel and Judah were eventually taken into captivity because of their sins.
  • There is no guarantee the United States won't be destroyed.
  • We need to search our own lives to see if we're living faithfully.
